Our Story

Who we are

Salt + Clay cold process soaps are 100% earth friendly and hand-poured in Marin County, California.

We set the bar high for honest products and use only the safest food-grade ingredients from sustainable sources. That means no palm oil or mined micas, and no exploitative or destructive farming practices. We care deeply about what our families wash with and what goes down the drain—ultimately flowing into rivers and the ocean, where we play and surf. Getting our soap right means understanding the whole ecological cycle.

But there’s more. We love to create soap that feels great on your skin, gets you clean, and elevates your bathroom, your kitchen—perhaps even your mood! We approach our soap making like art, using our knowledge of sculpture, permaculture, and aromatherapy to help guide us. The result is a beautiful bar of soap with a natural, clean smell.

We are Salt + Clay.

Meet the team

Jhaya ~ Founder & Soap Maker

I live with my family on a small urban homestead in Northern California, not far from the beach. We’re outside every day, surfing or playing in the garden, so my kids (and dog!) are always muddy or sandy. We use a lot of soap! I absolutely love combining my background and skills as a fine artist and permaculture designer into beautiful, all natural soaps for my family, customers and community. When I make soap, it's more than just a cleansing product - I’m making little pieces of functional art to brighten someone's day. Life is short...use the good soap :)

Heather ~ Head Writer & Content Manager
After years spent in travel, Heather has collected her fair share of soaps from across the world and loves writing about Salt + Clay's products from her hometown of Petaluma, California. Heather enjoys being part of the whole process; from mixing up soap batter to testing the latest creations, and especially engaging with our fantastic customers in person at markets and events.

Amanda ~ Brand Identity Design
Amanda makes things beautiful! She created the visual identity of Salt + Clay. For instance, note our dreamy logo :) To see more of Amanda's work, check out her digital portfolio on Intsa @thesoberillustrator and www.ifloststarthere.com
